To the ancient Chinese of the Shang Dynasty, the whole world only stretched as far as the borders of China. Their main focus was agriculture, which developed during this period. Bronze tools were developed (even though most still used stone and wood tools) Bronze metal work achieved a high title of sophistication because of the level of mastery needed to work with the metal. It was used to make things like weapons, instruments and ceremonial vessels. During the Shang dynasty, much of the famous fine pottery, fabrics and embroidery works were created, and people began to raise domesticated animals like cows, horses, chickens and dogs. As the outside began to attack and goods like wood and rice were imported from the south, their view expanded. The Shang soon took over (or tried to conquer) the people who provided them with the desired resources. That method stayed prominent and common in Chinese history for millennia.
